Korčula - island of gastronomic paradise
Korcula boasts a wide selection of restaurants and konobas – traditional Dalmatian taverns. The superb food and a wide selection of high-quality wines raised the standards of Croatian gastronomy. With years of tourism experience, the gastronomic offer on the island became more refined. It is also due to do with the fact that Korcula citizens were world travelers and brought the cosmopolitan way of life onto the island, including gastronomy.
The gastronomy on the island is characterized by varieties of meat and fish specialties with the most recognized local products, indigenous extra virgin olive oils, and high-quality wines.
Although the life on the island was modest, somehow the people on Korcula managed to enrich its culinary and gastronomic offer. We are proud to say that the island has the first Michelin Star restaurant, LD restaurant in the Lesic Dimitri Palace with its modern Dalmatian food. Other great restaurants in Korcula town are Filippi in Korcula (the Michelin Plate), Nonno, De Canavellis, Moro beach Stupe, Pensatore, Vrnik Arts Club.
Other places worth visiting are Konoba Aterina and Konoba Adio Mare in Korcula town, Konoba Bata in Vela Luka, Konoba Mala Kapja in Blato, Konoba Belin, Konoba Maha and Gera rural household in Zrnovo, and Konoba Mate in Pupnat village.
Wine plays an important part in the cuisine, as a beverage and an ingredient inevitable in the preparation of meals. We suggest trying the best red wine on Korcula – Plavac. If you are a white wine fan, afford yourself excellent Posip, Rukatac and Grk wine sorts. Prosecco is a dessert wine with a beautiful bouquet and a real treat for those who prefer sweet wine notes.
The dessert lovers can taste the exquisite traditional Korcula pastries such as cukarini, klasuni, hrustule, rozata (creme caramel), paradizet, sirnice, fave, lojenice. Treat yourself in this island gastronomic paradise, try local specialties and wines, and have fun among the locals who will tell you the secrets of the traditional Korcula recipes!
